Auburndale was founded in 1880 by Frank Fuller seeking refuge from chilly winters in the Northeast United States.
In May 1911 Governor Albert Gilchrist signed into laws legislation that incorporated Auburndale Florida.
The first house was built in July 1884, four months after the completion of the railroad through Auburndale.
Auburndale received its name in July 1884 when Major Louis McClain, the civil engineer in charge of laying out the downtown area described the location to a personal friend, the editor of the Boston Herald newspaper.
The editor’s wife said the description reminded her of her hometown of Auburndale, Massachusetts.
Auburndale’s roots can be traced back to 1873, when John Ledue became the first settler on Lake Ariana.

Auburndale Wrestling Team Finishes 4th in the State Rankings!
As the results of last Fridays State Championships, Lopton
Piere-Jaques is the state champion in the 169 pound weight class and
Darrien Booker is the heavy weight state champ! Donte Desir finished
4th in the 199 pound class followed by Mike Davis in 5th place in the
199 pound class. Antonio Thomas is the 10th ranked heavy weight in the
state and Jonah Burkett is the 15th ranked 129 pounder in the state.
This is the first time since 1984 Auburndale High School has had a
weight lifting state champion and is the highest finish ever as a team.
